A Tribute To Mythic

iwarhammer-age-of-reckoningi-the-hordes-of-chaos-20061121045650831It was just announced that Mythic is being closed by EA. The writing was on the wall, and I knew it was coming, but it’s still bittersweet. Mythic is among giving me the greatest moments of gaming history, and the biggest heartbreaks.

Mythic made the first MMO I ever played, and it was the most brilliant thing I ever played. Dark Ages of Camelot, where I played a cleric named Riverian. I forged friendships in this game that would transcend the game, and after 12 years I’m still sharing these peoples lives, and they mine. I mean moments that I will always remember like killing Salisbury giants, or the sound trees use to make while farming them. Standing at the wall at emain to hold off attackers, or waking up at 2am for a relic raid. I can go on and on.

Then came Warhammer Online, this was suppose to be another great triumph but sadly it just well didn’t live up to all that I hoped it to be. I still loved Mythic they embraced blog writers like myself, and included me in a special promotion that to this day I’m very proud they chose me. When I closed my Warhammer blog, I kind of knew that things weren’t going well for them.

I wonder if Mark Jacobs still checks in here once in a while. I’m real curious as to his thoughts on the matter. My thoughts are with the employees, with out them all the great memories wouldn’t be there. I wish them the best and hope they find new homes.

Thank you Mythic, and salute.

Camelot Unchained Kickstarter

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on April 2, 2013 by theerivs

girlchainIn a little bit the Camelot Unchained Kickstarter is about to start. Looking at some of the Reward Tiers. There are some pretty awesome deals. A twitter friend of mine said he was going to start his own Kickstarter to raise 10k for that tier. LOL!  The 50-55 is looking pretty tasty to me.  I’m definately going to give, because I really believe in Mark Jacobs, and the vision of his studio CSE. If you get a chance you should read his Foundations. If any game is going to pull me from WoW, I want to say this game has the biggest chance….That or Scarlet Blade with the bewbs.

Anyway I suggest you take a look at this game, and maybe give a few bucks, I just wish I had enough money to get an ale named after me. River’s Rotgut.

I don’t want another DAOC2

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on February 6, 2013 by theerivs

miriam-wowAs Mark Jacobs puts out a Dev Blog, I would have to agree with him. I mean I loved Dark Ages of Camelot. It what started my love of MMORPGS. There’s alot of things in DAOC though that can be brought over to Camelot Unchained. I’m going to list a few of them.

5 things from DAOC I would like to see in Camelot Unchained.

1. Unique Classes – I like classes with flavor. In DAOC each class was different, a healer on Albion side, wasn’t the same thing as a Healer on Hiberian side. Sure they both healed, but clerics smited, and I may or may not be correct tree hugging healers were mezzers (Crowd Controllers too) I don’t really know I hated those tree hugging bastards. My point is difference, and no cookie cutting.

2. Realm Pride – Pick a side, and be a part of that side. If you make an Arthurian toon on one server, you can’t have a Viking on the same server. I think not having toons on different sides  on the same server will help a long way in forcing people to choose a side, and stick with it.

3. Class Interdependency – Healers can’t kill shit, and DPS can’t last long without healers, and they all need some heavily armored monsters taking the hits. This way it allows for awesome team building,  and doesn’t make one class more important than the other.

4. Challenges – I use to love a good Mile Gate battle in DAOC, it presented a challenge. The Defenders were there, it was a choke point, and we had to play our very best to overcome them, and when we did…wow….it was awesome.

5. Darkness Falls Type Place – Darkness Falls was a dungeon only one side controlled at a time, when the other side won it they cleared out the losing side. Nothing inspired more blood lust when we got control of DF in DAOC, or nothing inspired more fear then sitting there solo and seeing that the enemies just took control….a gank was incoming. I know this game is strictly RvR, but DF was fun.

These are just a few of the concepts i enjoyed in DAOC, which I think can be brought to Camelot Unchained in a new format, but still have the spirit there.

P.S. I apologize the picture has nothing to do with the post… That picture is for a friend of mine since he was harping on me, I never post pictures of hotties lately….enjoy.

I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it.

flashdance1Bring back the Smite Cleric Damn it!

Some great news coming out of City State Entertainment with a new teaser. Also Mark Jacobs gives us some more info in a great article on Massively telling us more about the new project Camelot Unchained.

Is it going to be niche with PvP only? Sure is. I think though if done right it will have a great core following and be a success. I like PvP, and so do most of my fellow players in the guild.

I’m really looking forward to this, and if I had a soul I would sell it to get into closed beta.

The Blessings of Nurgle, God of Decay

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on January 23, 2013 by theerivs

chosen1Sorry I haven’t been writing much, I haven’t been playing much I have been truly blessed by the god of sickness and decay, Grandfather Nurgle.  As I am feeling much better now, and escaping the God of Decay’s plots, others have plans of me. Perhaps Lord Tzentech has some use of me next. For the Ravens are going to the Super Bowl. The Changer of Ways has deemed it so.  For now let us march on to the laughing, and thirsting of Dark Gods.

On that note Mark Jacobs did a great interview of Massively talking about Warhammer Online.  I’m a huge fan of Mark Jacobs, and all he does…am I fan boy…perhaps, but unlike people who demand respect. Mark is one of the few people who earned my respect, he is honorable in victory, and defeat. He refuses to push people under the bus, and I think like a phoenix he will rise from the ashes once again. Reminds me of myself and few other friends who had a guild in Mark’s game called Dark Ages of Camelot. We walked away from one of the major guilds on the server, and started one called Phoenix Ascension and rose from the ashes to become the number one guild on our server.  As we move from the past of DAOC, and Warhammer, City State Entertainment releases another trailer, and if you look closely around the internet Mark is leaving breadcrumbs as to his design notes…

“Foundation Principle #5– Choice and your choices matters!

This game will offer the player a wide range of choices of race, skills, armor, weapons, etc. and every major choice you make will have an effect on your character. You want to play a 4’2, 70 pound girl who runs around in lingerie and still wants to play a fighter? Sure, go right ahead but we hope you have major medical insurance. OTOH, if you want to play a character that looks like a fighter but also has lots of non-fighter like abilities/skills/etc., this game will allow you to do it. There will also be real and meaningful differences between races, genders, etc. Choice like size, really does matter, no matter what some people say.” ~ Mark Jacobs.

It’s starting to get me hyped, and  leaving one question. Who’s ass do I have to start kissing to get into closed beta?

As I crawl out of my mire, and back into the world of the living I got some stuff I want to talk about, So stick around because I may get sick, and down, but I am never out. I am Iron Within, and Iron Without!!

Could there be a Dark Ages of Camelot 2…Sorta?

Mila-Kunis-9Mark Jacobs, and his new Dev Team,  City State Entertainment, released a Teaser.

Now I admit I had a little bit of a boner. My first MMO was Dark Ages of Camelot, and I loved it. I mean Realm Versus Realm. The pride of taking another Realms relics, the pride of being in one of the best guilds of our server. The joy of crushing our enemies seeing them driven before you, and hearing the lamentation of the women.

Sorry got a little carried away. I’ll be keeping my eye on Mark and his crew..hopefully good things will come.
