Guild Trauma

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on April 26, 2011 by theerivs

Keredrea over at Tree of Life had a post about Guild Drama. Though it was a good story, I think back at all the incidents of guild drama over the years and think, man that guild is lucky.  I had guilds implode, get ripped apart, destroyed over drama, so much so it’s more like Guild Trauma

I’m going to open the books, and give you two examples of Guild Trauma from the Lore of River.

1. – The Guild that Rises Like a Phoenix –  Back in the days of yore my first MMO was Dark Ages of Camelot. I was then a part of one the best guilds on the Iseult server, Albion side called the Knights of The Red Dragon. From some fluke someone who shouldn’t have officer control got it, and were making life hell for us. We asked that person to leave, they would not.  Most of the members of the KOTRD met, and it was my first guild meeting in game, it was pretty neat. We all voted on if we wanted to leave KOTRD, which meant we had to start from scratch, which meant reset of our guild realm points, etc..etc.. The decision was made however to start anew. We called ourselves Phoenix Ascension. That’s what we did. We rose back through the ranks, and outdid our old guild.

2. Thoroughly Oppressed – Actually I was the cause more or less for a pretty good guild to bust up. In WoW, Phoenix Ascension languished, so we decided to join forces with a guild called Oppress. We were under their banner. I felt like the leadership wasn’t running the guild to my liking. So I quietly left, someone else took up my banner, and thought that the leadership was treating me unfairly, and decided that was the reason I quit, his name was Torkz, Torkz started an outright war within the guild over the reasons because I left, and got the PA folks on his side, and separated from Oppress. Thus ending the Oppress guild.   We went on to form a new guild named Blight, and I think they are still going strong on the Garona server from last I checked.

No matter what if you have a collection of people, you are going to have some drama…hopefully everyone is mature enough to handle it and move on…..

Good Luck with That.

The Guild is Created

Peace is a lie. There is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.  ~ The Sith Code

There will be one Grand Master, or Guild Leader. Then there will be four officer positions called Master Siths.

Challenge of Leadership

A member may challenge an officer, and take that officer spot. Once dueled, you can not challenge each other again for a month. Now the lost officer can challenge another officers position. Any officer who lost will be knocked down to member.

Now to challenge the Grand Master you must have a vote among the officers, 3 out of the 4 must say yes to the challenge. If the challenger fails to win, he is put on censure for 2 weeks, and not allowed to go on raids, or guild functions. If the Guild Master loses he gets knocked down to member, and also censured for 2 weeks. For the old Grand Master to challenge the new one, there must be another council vote to okay it.

There will be a Referee toon which will be of the actual rank of Guild Leader, and will oversee all these rules are applied.

Incentives to being the Ruling Class.

We will need incentives for the Sith to want to be an officer, like access to more guild bank space, a minor benefit to the loot system perhaps like a +1 to all rolls.

The Objective is to challenge ourselves, by fighting amongst ourselves. To rise above others, by making ourselves stronger. To make a more dynamic guild, one where no one’s job is safe.  To play the true Sith way.

Feel free to offer some up, and then apply to the guild.

Tanks…You’re Welcome

Posted in MMORPG with tags , on December 14, 2010 by theerivs

We got alot of DPS running around my guild, and even though I am working on my warrior tank all this DPS is outpacing me. So after some thought, I decided to put my mage on the shelf, and get to work on my Paly tank, make the offspec Healing. Which is another thing we are lacking in my guild.

It’s not a huge sacrifice really, even though I LOVE the mage class, I am really a Tank at heart. I was a tank in Vanilla/BC/Wrath, and I was a tank in Warhammer Online. What can I say I like things beating on me, and I love looking at crotches, and I’m looking at you Gruul.

So I’ll keep working on the Warrior, but I’ll be doing some quests on my Pally Tankadin, trying to get two sets of armor together one for tanking.

Once I get my Tanks all geared out, and ready to go I’ll return to my Mage, and get him up to speed.

Found this wonderful resource for us Pally Tanks on Maintankadin

Focus on Guilds: My Guild, My Rules

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , , on November 30, 2010 by theerivs

In Cataclysm I decided to take on leading my own guild, for good or ill, but we need focus, and some base rules.

I am resurrecting the Guild, Realm, Self motto that inspired me, and others back in the day.

Guild – You wear the tag, you wear the tabard, but what does it mean to you? For me make a contribution whether it’s helping guildies, or maybe it’s passing on that slight upgrade for yourself when it would be a huge upgrade for someone in your guild. To think about your actions. Be proud of your guild, and it’s accomplishments. To often I see people complaining about this or that within a guild, I say take charge, take ownership of your guild, make your own events, lead your own raids.  Bottom line is we’re a team, each with a role to play, and no role in unimportant.  In my guild there will be no charging of fellow guildies of any gold for crafting stuff, for example if Scary wants a robe, he’s responsible for getting the mats, but I can craft it for free. There will be no charge. That kind of thing.

Realm – Build relationships with your realm mates. Help them when you can. Don’t just ride by watch a lowbie get ganked in STV, help them out. Who knows you might make a new friend. I want to build alliances again where we could do events together. I want the screams of “FOR THE HORDE” be heard all over the server once more.

Self – Take ownership in your own toons. Read forums, and blogs. Learn your classes. Grow in that class. Have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Take pride in yourself. I would rather you ask me for gold, or to get you a gem for your helm if you don’t have gold, then go ungemmed because when people see that it reflects bad on yourself, and the guild.

Bottomline, I want to build memories, and friendships. I don’t remember the loot I got, but I remember the funny and good times I shared with my guildies. I want to bring that back, I want to bring pride back in the game, and try to weed out the greed, and avarice that this game sometimes induces.

Good News Everyone!

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , on November 10, 2010 by theerivs

“Good News Everyone” One of Prof. Putricides lines, but I saw a clip of Futurama, and the Doctor says it, probably where they got it from. Which makes it all that much cooler. I also noticed he says 2 Oozes, 1Room which I never noticed before.

Race Changes will be available for Worgen/Goblin at Cataclysm. So we can start working on those toons then change the race, which is cool cause I wanted a goblin warlock, now I can just race change the one I’m working on. Which is quite nice, but still want to do my warrior from scratch.

Also Latency Lowlifes got a newest member, Krybaby welcome. On the Weekly Lagout, I’ll be welcoming our new members, but since he’s the first one he gets special treatment, plus he use to read my other blog Way of the Chosen, so that makes him alright in my book. So come on down and join, and we’ll have some fun.  Hit me up on my toons, Rivon, or on Rivzon, or Rivvon, or anyone who is in the Lowlifes can invite, so just ask anyone who is on.

Living the Lowlife

Latency Lowlifes are now setup on the server Azgalor. We got 3 guild bank tabs. I started farming Netherweave..*ahem some Frostweave for Princess Bee* for bags. I made a tabard I don’t know it will stick. Maybe I’ll let the officers duke it out when it comes time. The Tabard is dark purple with white trim, and the chaos looking symbol on it in white as well, I’ll post a picture later in the week…or just look it up in the armory maybe.

Head Asshole – Me, Guild Leader

Asshole – Officer

Douchebag – Member

Scum – initiate

I have another Rank in there for Veterans, but probably won’t use it.

As I said I want this to be kind of a fresh start for all of us, but I’m not opposed for you to put an alt in to start farming or making gold. So if you want in early feel free to hit me up… cc0926(at)gmail(dot)com

I really want to run this with the least amount of rules. I want to just have some fun, and create an atmosphere where everyone is just comfortable with one another.

In Vanilla, I loved my guild because we built memories. That’s what I want. I want to people look back at Latency Lowlifes, and go man that was a fun guild, and they got shit done. I want to forge friendships, not see who has the best loot. I want to be good at what we do, and build a reputation on our server. With the Horde, as coolest mother fuckers around, and with the Alliance, as the biggest Assholes around.

I look forward to playing with some of my friends I made through the blogosphere. Next thing I’m going to get is Vent, and a Guild Website.

What the hell he just say?

So a guildie of mine asked if anyone wanted to do Karazhan. I was sick of farming Strat, I said sure. So I ported to Stonard (MAGES RULE!). Was sitting by the stone, and the raid leader starts adding more then 10 people. I whisper my guildie who I will call Vajayjay. I told Vajayjay “Did I miss something in patch notes, did they make Kara a 25 man now?”  Vajayjay replies, “Unless we’re both brain dead, nope still 10 man.”

So I go to the Raid Leader, “Umm yea Kara is only 10 man”  The Raid Leader goes, ” We got 20 people in Black Temple”  I just looked at the screen blankly for a few seconds. ” Yea buddy, Kara has always been just a 10 man raid”

I told my guildie, “You do realize we’re pretty much on our own here, we gotta get into our vent…this is gonna be fun!.”

So pretty much, Vajayjay, myself, and an 80 shammie practically did the whole place ourselves the others we 70 ranged noobs, even the raid leader. They got lost, and it was hilarious. At one point me and Vajayjay just looked at them while they ran the wrong way. These guys did not disappoint.

Except Chess event, I nearly snapped. I can train monkeys to that loot pinata. So when our King got killed twice, I nearly had a seizure. “LISTEN DOUCHEBAGS, THIS IS NOT HARD….NECROLYTES HEAL THE KING, THE KING STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM EVERYTHING, EVERYONE KILL THE ALLIANCE KING..YOU FUCKTARDS!”  My guildie was pissing in his pants laughing.

So we finally killed Prince, I got my Achievement. My guildie had to go back to get this book, a hunter from the raid followed us around. So we decided to have some fun at his expense, and led him through a wild goose chase though Kara.

After about 30 minutes of running this hunter ragged, we finally zoned out at the front door. I know we’re dicks.

The Banstick

Posted in MMORPG with tags , , , on February 4, 2010 by theerivs

Someone showed up Blizzard, we can’t have that. Showed Blizzard their flaws…shame on them. Ensidia beat the Lich King. Blizzard said they used an exploit, and banned them. Larisa goes into it more then I care too.

I just want to touch on this subject. Is it fair to Ensidia. No. It’s Blizzard being the 800lb Gorrilla they are, and trying to make an example of them. It smacks of the 4-man Leviathian Incident.

If the game allows me to do it, and I figure out how to do it. Why should I be punished? Say we were in the NFL, and I figured out if I tossed to the reciever on the left, because on the left you have a bad safety covering there. That’s like the Ref’s blowing a foul, because I know the player was weak…isn’t that ridiculous.

Whether you feel it’s cheating or not, whether Ensidia used an exploit or not, whether they knew or not is regardless. If the game code allowed them to do it, then I see no fault. I feel Blizz is in the wrong.

Though in the scope of thing 3 day ban, been there done that, it ain’t so bad. 😉

The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few…or One.

My man Spock said that in Wrath of Khan one of the greatest movies evah. My fellow bloggers elude to incident last night.  This is the great part of playing with a bunch of bloggers, they give nice insights to a problem. I just go in there a blow it all up..Only like a Mage can do it.

Lets give you a little history, this Huntard in our guild thinks he knows better then…almost everyone in the guild.  A few times while we were raiding he would interject, over Vent,  his thoughts on the situation. Ah but that in itself is not the crime. It’s HOW he said it that sucked. I think this post explains it better then I would.

Last night he got into argument with our tanks…not one of them pretty much all of them. Saying that their doing their jobs wrong because their not stacking their stats correctly. As a mage I kind of glossed over the whole thing. I’m retired from tanking, and the whole Damage Mitigation, Hit/Sta/Dodge/Parry arguments are in my past…until I hit 80 with the pally…UGH.

Our GM got mad at an Officer for snapping and kind of telling this Huntard off.  Now I understand Officers should be held to a little higher standard, but were all human. If a bug is flying around my ear long enough, I’m swatting the little pissant.

This whole situation reminds me of one time when I was bouncing at a bar.  That’s right I was the Cooler ala Swayze. Anywho, there was this drunk who was being obnoxious, squeezing girls butts, and acting a jerk in general. About 20 people came up to me to complain about this guy, and I came up to him he was almost going to get into a fight. I asked the jerk to leave, the guy who he was aggravated yelled something at the guy. Should I kick that guy out too, or maybe yell at the other 20 people. No, Once I removed the irritant drunk, that customer went back to normal and having a good time, and buying some shots for everyone. Everything went back to normal.

In my eyes there is only one person to blame the Huntard, and I would gkick the mofo so hard, he’d land on another server. Sometimes a guild is not the right fit for the person, or the person isn’t the right fit for the guild. Maybe thats why I’m not a GM. I would be draconian about it no doubt.

Here’s the bottomline….Don’t be a Douchebag, and it’s better to keep your mouth shut, and appear to be an idiot, then to open your mouth, and remove all doubt.
