Yes All Women

Posted in General with tags , on May 30, 2014 by theerivs

This is not about gaming, this isn’t about anything nerdy except maybe the fact it was on Twitter. Gender is a topic that fascinates me as the roles we play, and how it shapes our live, also I am on Twitter alot, and a topic that is trending of late came up, #Yesallwomen.  I saw women complain about how men did that to them, or this. I was getting angry. Surely there are women out there that don’t have these issues with men. I mean I had to believe as a man that there are women out there that are not treated like prisoners of war. I thought wrong, but I’ll get to that.

So to see exactly if it is ALL women, or maybe just a couple over vocal women who have had these issues. I created a little survey.

The results thus far was VERY eye opening, and a little sad.

So here are the results of my survey, As of this writing I have had 35 people who identify as women take the study. If you identify as male, I’m sorry I tossed your data out, but thanks for taking the survey, and I assure you will get your turn to speak.

The Results

Question #2 Have you ever had a negative experience that was caused by a male (  A very very general question I know, but thought it was a good kicking off point)

Yes -100%

No- 0%

Not a real surprise here.

Question #3 – Have you ever been raped?

Yes – 40%

No – 60%

This was damn near half of the women. This shocked me to the core.

Question #4 – Have you ever been physically abused by a male?

Yes- 51%

No – 49%

Another point of concern that it’s at near half, and half.

Question #5 – Have you ever feel threatened by a male? (Sorry shitty grammar here, but I did the survey in 5 seconds)

Yes – 100%

No – 0%

This question was a little general too I thought but still 100%.

Question #6 – Have you ever been sexually harassed by a male?

Yes – 92%

No – 8%

Another disturbing result.

Question #7 – I left this open to comments.

Some of the comments are truly disturbing. From waking up with being raped, to having boyfriends beat them, drug them, abuse them. Even a stepfather raping one of them. These are people who these girls and women are suppose to trust and count on.

This survey really opened my eyes. Where did this society go wrong. How come being born a woman is a prison sentence? Why must they live in fear?  It really made me think with my own dealings with women and I think I treated them right, and with at least some modicum of respect.  They say a few bad apples ruin the bunch, but we as a bunch and I say males in general need to police our own better.

I’ll leave the survey open a bit longer, but I don’t things will change much. Don’t worry men, I’ll give you a turn as well, but as for the women I don’t know what to say. I was wrong.  I guess it is All Women.

WoW: Bold Experiment.

Well I will be making a Worgen who is alliance when the expansion hits. So I want to make a toon, get them to 80, and start getting some heirloom gear.

I thought here’s my chance to run a little experiment, and write my findings. So I’ve spoken about Gender differences in video gaming before. I am going to put the shoe on a different foot now. I have all my MMO history rolled pretty much male toons, so when I speak of gender issues I can only see the male side of things.  So I want to see first hand do females get treated differently or poorly at all in MMO’s

My Experiment: To roll a female toon, a pallie to be specific. So I can heal/tank/dps on a random Alliance server. Try to be gender neutral in the way I act, and do things…to see if I am treated different, or have any bad experiences.

I promise not to giggle alot. 🙂

** ok maybe not that bold either, but it’ll be fun to see if I get free gold, or hit on at all.

General Gaming: The Gender War!

Posted in Gaming, General, Other Nerdy Pursuits with tags , , , on August 17, 2009 by theerivs

Men we are losing the Gender War in gaming.  Slowly losing ground to the Female of our species, and worse to Homosexuals. We need to tighten our reins, and bring in the situation. Remember if they are bad at doing something within a game, they are a woman, gay, fag or a homo. Please do not refrain from calling them thus.

If you see a women dps, please tell her to delete, and reroll a healer. If you see a guy healer, and he isn’t doing his job make sure to call him a fag, because obviously they are weaker then you, and must like the same sex.

Of course I am being facetious.  Penny Arcade was talking about this campaign, it also got me thinking. It’s like those drug campaigns, I don’t think it’s going to stop anyone from calling someone a homo. I don’t think this is a gaming issue, I think it’s a society in general issue. Even though I have gay friends, and women friends I still slip and revert to Uber Male mode, and shall endeavor to strive for better.  I think my role models like John Wayne would frown on how some of these young men, myself included treat other people.

I want to make it clear though, this post is not for or against homosexuality. I have my own views, but they are my own, and will stay that way.I am against people being disrespectful, and jerks to one another for stupid reasons. That’s what this post is about, that’s what I’m against.

As Gabe, and Tycho realize that this is a noble endeavor. I don’t think they are up to the task. I will help spread awareness, and try to act a little bit more honorable. I also think though the world is not about what is right or fair, it is up to us to make it so, even though that fight is a losing one.  To be a Man takes more then having a penis, and one must do what is right, because it is right, and not because it is popular, or you get some reward.  To be a person that stands up for what is right, must extend into everything we do. I wouldn’t go up to a person in a bar I hardly know, and call him a fag, I shouldn’t do it over Ventrilo either. That’s the problem with the internet, it is not a license to act like a jerk off.

General MMO: I’m a Blood Elf Stripper…

miriam-wowOk I really want to talk about Gender in MMO’s but thought that title would catch your eye. I have a question for you gentlemen out there, would you give this girl 10 gold?

When I’m gaming in a virtual world, I think most of us guys, or at least more mature guys (read as old) I believe just assume a female toon is another guy. So if you have a female toon, or a blog I just assume he. I was corrected by Shy tell me that he is indeed a she, and her comment from my previous post got me thinking about gender in MMO’s.

Gaming is male dominated, we make, and play most of the games, but as Dylan said “The times they are changing”. Some guys say, “Girls aren’t as good as men when it comes to gaming”, I say, “Nay Nay good sir.” Every day more and more females are making in roads into gaming. Heck the best raiding mages I have seen are females, and not G.I.R.L.’s or Guys In Real Life. Their not healers, they aren’t female cow druids. These are pew, pew, blow stuff up mages.  In terms of FPS’s Hawty Mcblotty could blow me away anyday….excuse me while I grin at that last statement for a sec.

Being a female gamer, I am always curious if they get picked on more, or if they are left out by it. Do they have a tougher time the males gaming. I’m sure they get gold, and gifts showered upon them by the immature guys who love to degrade, and curious about a real life girl. If your female gamer I would love to hear the stories, bad and good of what’s it like to be a female in a male dominated virtual world. I would imagine like it would be in Australia. I heard there’s more guys there then women.

Sure most of the females I know rolled a healer to help their boyfriend, or hubby play the toon they wanted to play, but like the crack addict who took a hit because their significant other was doing it and got hooked, I think this is how many girls got hooked on MMO’s at least it has been from my observation. I wonder if there are any guys out there who never played an MMO, but because their wife or girlfriend played they started playing. I would find that interesting role reversal for sure.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is the older I get, the more I see girls taking a more active role in gaming, and wouldn’t be surprised if they won’t be in the command chair at some gaming companies.

I for one welcome our new Overlords.

Oh and for you guys, what did you answer. If you answered “Yes” to giving that girl 10 gold, you been had. She’s actually a He.  Welcome to MMO world.
