Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of River’s passing. For anyone that might like to share a memory or thought, or read the memories and thoughts of others I wanted to share a link to the Remembering River Facebook page.

Remember
Posted in Uncategorized on June 11, 2014 by BeeIt is with the heaviest of hearts that I make this post today.
Although I haven’t posted in a while, River and I have remained friends, mostly keeping updated through facebook. When I logged in yesterday I saw hundreds of posts from River’s friends and family being made to his facebook wall. As I read through them I was met with the news that River passed away yesterday.
The messages from his friends and family are so touching. It is apparent he was loved and appreciated by so many people. I know he impacted my life in a very positive way.
Although we never met in person, he was my friend from afar. He gave me advice, he stood up for me, and he always made me laugh. I know he sometimes struggled to find a balance in life, because he was so giving of himself. He was the first to help his parents and his friends in their times of need. He will be greatly missed.
I know he has had an impact on many of his readers. You may not have always agreed with him – but you were always laughing – and you were always reading. And I think that is what he wanted. To share his thoughts, to impact others – and through that communication to impact himself. I know he loved writing and keeping up with this blog. And I know I will love to be able to go back and read through it in the future and think of him.
For those that may be interested in leaving a note of condolence or sending flowers I located a page dedicated to his memory.
I’ll end with the final post River made to his personal blog, Chaotic Ramblings.
Remember
by Christina Georgina Rossetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
Love you Riv.
Yes All Women
Posted in General with tags Gender, Yes All Women on May 30, 2014 by theerivsThis is not about gaming, this isn’t about anything nerdy except maybe the fact it was on Twitter. Gender is a topic that fascinates me as the roles we play, and how it shapes our live, also I am on Twitter alot, and a topic that is trending of late came up, #Yesallwomen. I saw women complain about how men did that to them, or this. I was getting angry. Surely there are women out there that don’t have these issues with men. I mean I had to believe as a man that there are women out there that are not treated like prisoners of war. I thought wrong, but I’ll get to that.
So to see exactly if it is ALL women, or maybe just a couple over vocal women who have had these issues. I created a little survey.
The results thus far was VERY eye opening, and a little sad.
So here are the results of my survey, As of this writing I have had 35 people who identify as women take the study. If you identify as male, I’m sorry I tossed your data out, but thanks for taking the survey, and I assure you will get your turn to speak.
The Results
Question #2 Have you ever had a negative experience that was caused by a male ( A very very general question I know, but thought it was a good kicking off point)
Yes -100%
No- 0%
Not a real surprise here.
Question #3 – Have you ever been raped?
Yes – 40%
No – 60%
This was damn near half of the women. This shocked me to the core.
Question #4 – Have you ever been physically abused by a male?
Yes- 51%
No – 49%
Another point of concern that it’s at near half, and half.
Question #5 – Have you ever feel threatened by a male? (Sorry shitty grammar here, but I did the survey in 5 seconds)
Yes – 100%
No – 0%
This question was a little general too I thought but still 100%.
Question #6 – Have you ever been sexually harassed by a male?
Yes – 92%
No – 8%
Another disturbing result.
Question #7 – I left this open to comments.
Some of the comments are truly disturbing. From waking up with being raped, to having boyfriends beat them, drug them, abuse them. Even a stepfather raping one of them. These are people who these girls and women are suppose to trust and count on.
This survey really opened my eyes. Where did this society go wrong. How come being born a woman is a prison sentence? Why must they live in fear? It really made me think with my own dealings with women and I think I treated them right, and with at least some modicum of respect. They say a few bad apples ruin the bunch, but we as a bunch and I say males in general need to police our own better.
I’ll leave the survey open a bit longer, but I don’t things will change much. Don’t worry men, I’ll give you a turn as well, but as for the women I don’t know what to say. I was wrong. I guess it is All Women.

Out of Commission
Posted in General, MMORPG, Writing with tags sick on August 1, 2013 by theerivsSorry haven’t been doing much except alot of explosive diarrhea, throwing up, and other profound nastiness. Seems like I got a bag of tainted lettuce, which lucky me I get to be sick. So I apologize I’ll be out of commission probably until the end of this week. No worries if I die, I’ll ghost write this blog.
A little pat on the back for myself
Posted in Uncategorized on June 4, 2013 by theerivsThis is my 2,050th (after doing the math though with guest posts, it’s only 2,000 posts I did myself) post on my combined blogs, I just seen someone celebrating their 500th, and wondered where I was at.
I started this journey with my personal blog, Chaotic Ramblings, then I branched out into video game blogging for Warhammer online, with my Way of the Chosen blog, and here we are living the High Latency Life.
So as I look at my total post count, I went Holy Shit! that’s a lot of words, and boy does my fingers hurt, and as I look back I never regreted one minute of it. LOL!
Back to Mage School
Posted in MMORPG, Uncategorized with tags Mage, School, WoW on April 17, 2013 by theerivsI’ve been working on my mage quite a bit. as of late. It seems things changed quite a bit since the last time i maged it up. No longer am I the harbinger of death that I use to be, in PvE, or PvP. I have rotations in every spec now, in Frost I have thinks like Frost Bomb, and I have to keep up my Ice Barrier, and in Fire I have things like Living Bomb, and Combustion. I’m afraid to check out my favorite spec, Arcane I heard it’s not the melt your face spec that it once was either. Though it’s a little more fun, when grinding mobs, I still wish it was fireballx3 = dead, or Frostbolt, Frost Nova, Two Blizzards = dead. Maybe it’s the gear, or the fact I’m still 89.
It’s funny I’ve been playing a mage since Vanilla, and I use to feel god like…not anymore…hell even my portals aren’t as awesome as they use to be.
Well at least I’m not as bad as a couple of players I ran a dungeon with last night. Hey group up during magnetic shroud, and invest in downloading Deadly Boss Mods. Thanks for the 19 minute wait for the epic fail.
Anywho despite all the changes, and the way mage class is set up now, I’m still enjoying it.
Are you wuxia?
Posted in Uncategorized on April 15, 2013 by Liana ShadowfallIn this week’s adventure column I write on my initial impressions of “Age of Wushu.” I am a bit of an ADD gamer and playing lots of different things keeps me entertained, I’m too casual to find something that I devote my life to. So I keep wandering, to find my MMO home.
So you start the game, as any other mmo, at the character creation screen. Lots of sliders to play with but ultimately I stuck with the default-ish female avatar. I was sad I couldn’t change eye color 😦 Seeing as how it takes place in semi realistic ancient china… Yeah everyone has brown eyes. You pick from a number of backstory options such as kidnapped sister, and then you pick your ‘strength.’ To be honest, I have no idea what any of it means so I just picked some things that sounded the most interesting. My characters are almost always orphans or have some other trait that leaves them needing to seek heroic inspiration. Maybe I like Batman too much, but I digress.
You progress through several [boring] missions to get the skills you need and pick your ‘school’, which determines your role in groups. Some of the schools are gender or profession restricted. Still not sure where I get professions from, as I haven’t made it that far yet. I picked what was basically the female equivalent of monk, the healing role. At least I think so.
I haven’t had a ton of time to play but I am excited to look into a sandbox game. Especially a kung fu sandbox! I get burned on the same fantasy mmo over and over again. Give me something else! Well Snail games has delivered.
There are some issues that bother me right off the bat. I play inverted mouse, like, everywhere. So the fact that there is NO option to change… That is pathetic. As a software engineer myself, the fact that they didn’t code that in from the very start is just lazy. The graphics at least redeem the lack of control options. They are very pretty and there is an option to toggle off the characters in the world. Their names still appear but it can help with some congestion, especially in the starting areas where people are littered all over.
I haven’t been able to explore much of the combat system as I ended up wandering around the world just looking and exploring.
So far, the game is interesting but there is so much to learn, the skill progression is confusing and I am not quite sure what is going on most of the time. It feels like Eve Online in that [if VIP] you can ‘cultivate’ your skills in offline time, otherwise you need to be logged into progress the skills you have earned. The in game explanation of that mechanic works well, it takes time to learn things, etc… So while annoying, I can understand. I haven’t seen the limitation of VIP yet. If you hit them before I do, let me know in the comments below.
Anyway, enjoy the wire flying, awesome Kung Fu action of Age of Wushu, it’s free 2 play. So why not explore what it’s all about? Leave all your comments and feeback below. I’d love to hear what you guys have to say about the game, if you are more interested in a certain aspect of it. Free to play games allow me to live my life and hop in and out, guilt free.

King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime
Posted in General, Other Nerdy Pursuits with tags King of the Nerds, TBS, TV show on January 24, 2013 by theerivsAhh Faith No More….Oh wait no the post is about the new show on TBS called King of the Nerds. I saw the first show, and I’m pretty much hooked. Now I usually don’t get hooked on reality TV, ok Duck Dynasty a little cause somewhere in me lives a southern hillbilly. For the most part I’m a Geek. Nerd’s are a different level of smartness then me and I don’t want to claim myself a Nerd with out a Ph’D. Well let’s get back to the show. I just saw one, but here are some observations.
HOSTS– Robert Carradine, and Curtis Armstrong….or as we who remember the movie Revenge of the Nerds as Lewis, and Booger. Man I loved that movie, it spoke to me on so many levels. To see these guys host this show is pure awesome.
NERDVANA – Game Rooms, a Radio Shack Room, Play Weapons, I didn’t catch everything, but what I did catch makes me want to win the Lottery to get all that cool stuff, I’d have to probably buy a real house too…The girlfriend would never approve.
CONTESTENTS – There are some I liked, and a few I don’t. I won’t tell my complete thoughts, I’d be here all day. I think it’s a great mix though of geeks, and nerds and really look forward to them facing off. One thing I am sad about is the loss of Hendrik. In the first episode he stepped up, and volunteered to go to the nerd off. He showed courage and determination. I hope they bring him back somehow in the future.
CONTESTS – Well one was just picking the teams, and there was a real spin to it which I didn’t quite see coming. So I have to say that was awesome. Then for the Nerd Off they played a giant game of chess, with a TOTAL hottie moving the pieces…wow. me likey.
OVERALL: I like this show, and I’m looking forward to more, they celebrate the Nerd, but not make them a laughing stock. I think I have to show some love to Danielle aka Panser for the Warcraft love in the first episode which is cool.
It airs on Thursday nights at 10/9 CST
